Introduction

A purpose-built student’s Hall of Residence that offers some of the best student living in the area of Nicosia (Lefkosia).
The project was encouraged and sponsored by the Cyprus government, approved and licenced by the town planning department and teh municipality of Ayios Dometios - Engomi. Though a private enterprise, it is accredited and affiliated the University of Nicosia.

It was designed and built with today's students in mind and with all the up-to-date European specifications and requirements for such projects, where students can live in comfort, security and safety. The design was based on the model of a typical British university hostel. This Students Hostel is the first of its kind in Cyprus and offers ideal accommodation for the University Students in this area. It is affiliated to the University of Nicosia Housing Unit, from which we get most of our students.

We also provide some places for students of the European University which is also in this area. The majority of our students (male & female) are Cypriots from other parts of the island, Limassol, Paphos, Larnaka, Paralimni etc. Other students come from mostly European countries, Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Sweden, Finland, etc. 

 



RATES
Rents are monthly payable in advance as follows:

Rents are inclusive of Internet, Communal facilities, Kitchen facilities and cleaning of all communal areas.
Rents are inclusive of an electricity and water allowance per room.
Any excess, as will be shown by the Electricity and Water meters of the Room will be charged extra.
For reasonable use of electricity and water there may not be any extra charge.
For use of Air-Condition for cooling in summer months (Optional) there is an extra charge.

* A deposit (one months rent) is required, which is returned upon vacating the premises, provided no damages were caused.

 


SHARED KITCHEN-DINING ROOMS
There is a communal fitted kitchen on every floor which is shared by five to six students living on that floor.
These are fully equipped with cooker, Microwave, oven, Kettle, and
large fridge- freezer. All kitchens are fitted with individual lockable storage cupboards and each student is allocated his own cupboard for his personal items. Students are expected to provide their own kitchen utensils, plates, cups, knives, forks, etc, though they can use some left by previous students. Adjoining each kitchen is a dining room with a large table and chairs, creating a communal space, where students can enjoy their meals and drinks with their friends. Next to each dining room is a large balcony with a pleasant view and can also be used by smokers or for an outside meal on a cool summer evening.



CLEANING - LAUNDRY
Cleaning service is provided for all communal areas and corridors.
However, you are responsible for cleaning your room as this ensures your privacy too.

Laundry facilities are available onsite.
Coin operated laundry machines and dryer facilities are available in the Laundry Room. Special coins can be obtained from the reception. 


SUN BATHING
Students have the opportunity to sunbathe almost all the year round Sun camp-beds are provided for this purpose both in the back garden of the building as well as in the private area on the roof top of the building.

SOCIALIZE
An important part of your educational experience is your social life at the university.
You will be living in a friendly student environment and this is a great way to meet new people and make good friends. You will be living among academic people of your own age, of similar interests but of different background and culture who study a wide range of courses at university.

Most of these fellow  students will be undergraduates but you will find that many are doing postgraduate research work either at the university or with UNDP, ACT (Action for Cooperation and Trust) UNHCR, PRIO. Others will be trainees with the US Embassy, or the Italian or French Embassies, who are potential future ambassadors of their country.
 Many of such students have been doing research on topics such as:
International Relations, Intercommunal Relations,
Community relations, Conflict, Diversity, Bicommunalism  etc..
Living in such environment you will gain lifelong memorable pleasant experiences. Most probably you will never have a similar opportunity in the rest of your life.



NON-SMOKING POLICY
This Student Hall of Residence was designed to comply with all the latest rules and regulations regarding health and safety at the place where you live and work.
A NON-SMOKING policy is applied in the Hostel. 
NO SMOKING is allowed in any internal area of the building. All the rooms, the Kitchens  the Dining Rooms and all the communal areas are fitted with smoke/heat detectors and fire alarms. Fire extinguishers and water hoses are located in the corridors and on all floors of the building for emergency cases. All the inside doors of the building are all fire-proof for protection and safety.
All rooms and Communal areas are designated as NON-SMOKING areas.
However, students can smoke if they wish on their room-balcony, on the dining room balconies and in the open air spaces of the building.

RULES & REGULATIONS
Extract from the Rules and Regulations of the Hostel:

....The rules are designed to ensure that the harmonious student community life in this accommodation is maintained and an environment exists that is conducive to happy and comfortable living, effective study and successful academic work.

Activities or behavior or excessive noise that could disrupt the other student residents and prevent them from studying, resting or sleeping are strictly NOT ALLOWED.
Obeying these rules and regulations and being reasonably considerate of the other students you will certainly enjoy a happy, successful and memorable stay at the hostel.

All student residents are expected to abide by the Rules and Regulations of the Hostel. The Management has the authority and discretion to take such action as they consider appropriate in each case. Infringement of these Rules may lead to a student being fined and/or expelled from the Hostel without warning.


Erasmus Students
As an affiliated hostel of the University of Nicosia, special arrangements are available for the overseas Erasmus Students who come on the Erasmus Program and need only short term accommodation. In such cases we provide short-term rentals for one Semester (Fall or Spring) for them.  On the Erasmus Program we have had students from Lithuania, Latvia, Germany, Poland, France, Italy, Spain, UK, Denmark, Belgium etc.

UNDP, UNOPS, ACT, UNHCR, PRIO
The hostel is very close to the gate of the UN Headquarters. Students who come on internships with the above organizations find suitable and convenient accommodation at the Hostel. Subject to availability we provide short-term (min. 3 months) rentals for these interns. We also provide a bicycle on free loan, if required, by these students. We have had such interns from: Finland, Sweden, Germany, Belgium, Turkey, France, Russia, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, etc.

Embassies
Every year we have some trainee students for the US Embassy, Italian Embassy and the French Embassy, which are located nearby.  For these students we also provide short-term rentals and a bicycle on free loan. The Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics  Subject to availability we provide short-term accommodation for doctors who come for practice and research at the above institution which is just opposite the Hostel.
